Tides of Change

I wish I could escape upon the gentle breeze
I wish I could skim my fingers upon the waters shallow

To feel the way I used to
To feel whole, not separated

I have been blessed
I have been tested

The norm has changed, and changed once again
The tensions rise, but we are steadfast

We are alone though our cries gather, unite us
We are brothers and sisters, though we do not engage

Our hearts beat and our blood sings as we rise above
Our differences and our prejudices dissolve as we conjoin

We will not let fear make us blind, when we can clearly see
We will not give up because it is strenuous, when you feel like you nothing more to give

I wish I could sit under a willow tree and read the day away
I wish I could dance in the rain and sing along with you…
